Community science helps Albertans learn more about the flora and fauna that share our cities, parks, and wild places. By taking part, people can support local conservation, build a stronger personal connection to nature, and help protect birds for future generations across Calgary and beyond.

Merlin Bird ID is a free app that helps you identify and learn bird songs by listening to the birds around you and suggesting real‑time matches. It acts as a gateway to community science, building a strong foundation for Calgarians who are just starting out in bird‑watching and want to get involved in local projects and data‑sharing.

Nature Calgary is a local volunteer group that helps Calgarians connect with nature through events like the City Nature Challenge Calgary, where participants across Calgary document plants, animals, and birds using iNaturalist to create valuable community‑science data for the city.
